UCU strikes put on pause after ‘significant progress is made’

The remaining February strikes have been called off

On Friday the UCU announced that the university strikes which were set to continue throughout February have been called off. This means that the strikes on the following dates will NOT be going ahead across the universities in Liverpool:

  • Tuesday 21st February
  • Wednesday 22nd February
  • Thursday 23rd February
  • Monday 27th February
  • Tuesday 28th February
  • Wednesday 1st March
  • Thursday 2nd March

The decision to pause the industrial action was taken after the UCU reported on making “significant progress on a range of issues” such as levelling pay gaps, reducing workloads and setting of time limits for negotiations on tackling casual contracts.

Whilst they have called off the February strikes, the UCU emphasises that this is a pause in industrial action to “allow the ongoing negotiations to take place in a constructive environment”.

Although these February dates have been called off, in a statement by the UCU they have confirmed that strikes happening in March will still be going ahead on the 16th, 17th, 20th, 21st and 22nd.
