This is what Richard Gadd is doing next after the success of Baby Reindeer
He’s already got another TV show lined up!
The Netflix show, Baby Reindeer, has gained a cult like following in recent weeks. The show is based on the experiences of Richard Gadd, when he was stalked relentlessly by a character entitled “Martha” and repeatedly sexually assaulted by a mentor-like figure to him. The show tackles hard topics with sensitivity, with the writer and lead actor saying hat he saw Martha as someone who needed help and support.
Richard is a Scottish actor and comedian, who has worked on screen before in less high profile dramas, such as the BBC’s Against the Law, and Clique. He also worked on the hit Netflix show, Sex Education, and has written several successful plays. Monkey See Monkey Do won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for the Best Comedy Show, and the play version of Baby Reindeer went on to win a variety of accolades, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre.
The Netflix show has sparked controversies and has given internet sleuths more than enough to sink their teeth into, but what is next for its writer and lead character, Richard Gadd?

Richard’s next project is said to be a show written for the BBC, called Lions. The show will be aimed and set around Glasgow, and according to Radio Times, will explore themes of masculinity in the lives of two brothers. The BBC released a synopsis of the show earlier this year: “Spanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults – with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way”.
When asked if he will be acting in this new series, speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Richard said that “for Baby Reindeer, it added a layer of intrigue because it happened to me and I think it made the piece more interesting. But I want Lions to exist as a piece of art”.
He went on to say: “All of the stuff I’ve done as an emotional truth to it, but this is not based on my life at all. It’s a fictional world and a new challenge that I’m really looking forward to”. The release date for his new show will be sometime in 2025.

As explored in Baby Reindeer, Richard is a survivor of rape and sexual abuse, and is now an ambassador for the charity We Are Survivors – an organisation dedicated to supporting male survivors of sexual abuse. Speaking to the Guardian, Richard said: “I’ll always give them a shout out because they’ve helped me tremendously down the years, and they say breaking the silence is the first step.”
On the website for We Are Survivors, Richard has written that he would like to “use his new writing opportunities in television – specifically factual television – to work with survivors on a large scale and highlight the plight of male sexual abuse and the stigma surrounding it through documentary story-telling.” This is something he has clearly achieved with Baby Reindeer.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Richard was asked how he felt about people speculating and trying to figure out who’s who in the show. He responded by saying that he doesn’t “agree with the sleuth thing”, and that he has “put out a statement publicly saying I want the show to be received as a piece of art, and I want the show to people to enjoy as a piece of art”. He went on to say that “I don’t think I’ll ever comment on it ever again.”
