A peek inside the incredibly private dating history of Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey

It doesn’t matter that his love story has been and gone, Anthony is still an iconic Bridgerton cast member and is certainly still very easy on the eye, despite being married to our lady Kate. And that also happens to be the case for Jonathan Bailey too, who is currently in a relationship but is certainly lusted after by all of us Bridgerton fans. Despite being quite private about his love life in the past, our Viscount is happily in a relationship now. Here’s a look at Jonathan Bailey and his complete relationship timeline.

Despite never being confirmed by either Pippa or Jonathan, they were rumoured to have been in a relationship together after being spotted publicly on several occasions. Pippa is also an actress and is best known for her impressive roles in Torchwood, Dark Shadows, The Avengers, and Doctor Who, which she starred in alongside Jonathan.

Jonathan also attended Pippa’s 30th birthday where they snapped a photo together, sparking even more rumours of their supposed relationship. Whatever the label, their relationship was certainly cosy, with their most recent photos together being taken in November 2018. They did look a fitting pair, but with no confirmation from either party, it’s possible they were just close friends.

James Ellis – 2019 to 2022

 

James Ellis’ love story with Jonathan Bailey is next on his relationship timeline, with the two actors dating from 2019 to 2022.

Their three year relationship had fans swooning, with the couple attending the Olivier Awards together in 2019 and posing for adorable photos together. Jonathan actually won an award at the event for his role in the musical Company, and the pair celebrated with a super cute kiss before he headed on stage to collect his award. The peck was the first time he confirmed their relationship in public, as neither of them ever actually commented on the romance publicly.

Because of this, the exact start and end date of their relationship is unknown, but we know roughly from their first kiss that it was sometime around then.

After James and Jonathan’s relationship, some rumours of a romance between Jonathan and cast mate Matt Bomer circulated after they worked together on Fellow Travelers, but these proved to be another product of Jonathan’s fabulous on screen chemistry with fellow actors.

After his relationship with James, Jonathan chose to keep his love life private and to be honest, I don’t blame him. Whilst confirming that he’s currently in a relationship with a mystery man, Jonathan has kept all other details of their relationship a secret. He did at least confirm in December 2023 that he’s dating “a lovely man”, explaining how keeping his relationship private is really important to him. That’s all that matters, right?

Jonathan said: “Having a private life is, for me, completely critical. I don’t know if I would be able to be as confident to speak out on other things if I felt that my whole life was up for grabs.”

He has also previously opened up to GQ about homophobia in Hollywood and what it meant for him and his relationships in the public eye. He said: “[There are] two things we don’t want to know: If you’re an alcoholic or if you’re gay.

“All it takes is for one of those people in that position of power to say that, and it ripples through.”

Speaking about how he kept his sexuality private for a large portion of his life, he said: “Of course, I thought that in order to be happy, I needed to be straight.”

After realising this didn’t need to be the case, he decided to be his honest self: “I reached a point where I thought, ‘F*ck this.’ I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder and not be so concerned about that than getting a part.”

This privacy may possibly have something to do with an incident Jonathan experienced with homophobic man at a coffee shop after he attended an LGBTQ+ event. He previously recounted in an interview how a man pulled his cap off and “threw it across the room” before threatening to shoot him if he didn’t get out of the cafe. After being both threatened and verbally abused, Jonathan spoke about how this affected him: “My life was threatened. My body believed it; my brain didn’t, and it took me a while to really catch up with it.”
