Rugby Union

Neil Sutherland, 3rd year, History (Men’s 1st Team Captain)

Where do you live? Georgian Quarter.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Bench 100kg, squat 140kg, and deadlift 180kg.

Do you have any pre-match rituals? I always have to wear 4 layers under my 1st team jersey – the only time I didn’t I broke my arm so I’m superstitious now. I also have to listen to ‘The Entertainer’ by Billy Joel.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I went to the same school as William Shakespeare.

Basketball

Jay Papaioannou Turner, 2nd year, Politics with Chinese (Men’s 1st Team Captain)

What’s your favourite night? Level.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I’m half Greek and I speak Greek, French, and Chinese. I’ve also been playing Basketball since I was three.

Beccy Ballantine, 3rd year, Mathematics and Business Studies (Women’s 1st Team Captain)

Where do you live? Smithdown (Cardigan street).

What’s your favourite night? Brooklyn Mixer or Juicy.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? I squat around 20kg most days in the week.

Beccy Mack, 3rd year, Psychology (Club Captain)

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Bench 35kg.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I spent 10 weeks volunteering in Tanzania.

Hockey

Luke Nardone, 3rd year, Aerospace Engineering (Men’s Club Captain)

What’s your favourite night? Nothing beats The Raz on a Monday night.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? I’ve never been to the gym a day in my life.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa.

Anya Coffey, 3rd year, Biological science (Women’s Club Captain)

Where do you live? Smithdown Road.

What’s your favourite night? Every Wednesday for the fancy dress hockey social.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Squat 50kg, deadlift 60kg, and bench 30kg.

Do you have any pre-match rituals? A banana and a cup of coffee, every time.

What’s your favourite night? Circus all-day parties in Camp & Furnace.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Bench 70kg.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I scored a hat-trick against Burnley when playing for Northern Ireland.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Deadlift 50kg.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I once performed for an audience of about 400 overlooking the Trevi Fountain. Whether they were there for me or not is debatable.

What are you currently lifting in the gym? Bench 50kg and deadlift 90kg.

Tell us something about you others won’t know: I won a bronze medal at the British Rowing Championships and I’ve rowed with George Nash (Olympic gold medalist) whilst on training camp with Liverpool.
