‘A nice chap through and through’: Strictly winner Hamza Yassin is a Bangor Uni graduate

Hamza Yassin, the winner of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing 2022 is a graduate of Bangor University.

He graduated in 2011 with a degree in Zoology with conservation and received an honorary master’s degree in biological photography and imaging from the university this year.

Julia Jones, a professor of conservation science at the university stated that he returns every year to deliver a lecture to second year undergraduates at Bangor, noting that he is “a nice chap through and through.” 

Reflecting upon his time in Bangor University, Hamza said that “my university days were the best days of my life so far” and that the “university ignited my passion for conservation and wildlife.”

Hundreds of former pupils and staff posed with a giant cardboard figure of Hamza at a graduation ceremony prior to Strictly Come Dancing’s final in a display of support. 

Hamza is a wildlife presenter, hosting BBC One’s Countryfile and Animal Park and had never taken any dance lessons prior to taking part in Strictly Come Dancing. 

Upon winning, Hamza said “words can’t describe how I feel” and he thanked his dance partner Jowita Pryzstal and the viewers who voted for them.
