Miley Cyrus dropped the best song of the century last week, Flowers, and now fans won’t stop talking about the song’s connection to Liam Hemsworth. The song is everything you want and more, it’s upbeat, an anthem for being single and drops so many outrageously unsubtle hints to her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

The sleuths on TikTok have found several easter eggs all leading back to Miley and Liam’s relationship and it’s pretty wild. So here’s a rundown of all those not-so-indirect Liam Hemsworth indirects you might have missed in the music video for Flowers by Miley Cyrus.

First up: The drop date

You can’t convince me this wasn’t premeditated. Out of the 365 days in the year, Miley Cyrus decides to drop an anthem about thriving when your single on the birthday of her ex-husband? Icon status.

Now let’s get into the lyrics in Flowers and what fans think they mean

So the song starts: “We were good, we were gold. Kinda dream that can’t be sold. We were right until we weren’t. Built a home and watched it burn.” This is in reference to Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s Malibu home which burned in a 2018 wildfire.

The Bruno Mars links in this song are wild too. The chorus has been picked up by everyone online and the lyrics seem to be a direct response to Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man – a ballad about the one who got away. Also, more interestingly, there’s a rumour saying this is the song Liam dedicated to her but that hasn’t been confirmed. And if it is true, that’s weird because it’s literally a breakup song.

Now at this point, I don’t know if I am attracted to her or terrified of her. In a later part of the video, Miley is dancing in a black suit and fans were so quick to jump on the idea it was one of Liam’s, specifically the one he wore to Avengers: Endgame premiere. This is big because there’s a clip going around of Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus at the event on the red carpet and he allegedly tells her to “behave for once” after she pretended to lick him.

The whole music video is so slay and entertainingly shady and the fact it kicks off with Miley in the iconic YSL hooded gold dress is too much for me. The dress she wears is from the 1991 fall collection and features a draped hood, criss-cross waistline and prominent cut-out. Fans of Miley have speculated the link from this dress and the one a Hunger Games actress wore alongside Liam Hemsworth at the movie premier. Especially when that same actress confirmed she and Liam shared an off-camera kiss. Interesting!
