Cardiff Uni and Cardiff Students’ Union have announced they will parade at Pride 2023

The parade will be held in the city centre on 17th and 18th June

Cardiff University and Cardiff Students’ Union will parade at Pride Cymru later this year.

The parade will be held in the city centre on the 17th and 18th June 2023.

The event is held by Pride Cymru, a volunteer-led charity that works to promote the elimination of discrimination be it on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or ability.

The announcement follows Cardiff Students’ Union’s celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month throughout February which engaged with over 500 students by hosting events such as film clubs and pride showcases. Multiple guest speakers also attended events to share their stories.

Gina Dunn, President of Cardiff Students’ Union, said: “I’m so pleased that Cardiff University and the Students’ Union will be attending, and parading at, Pride Cymru 2023. It is amazing to see how much support this incredible event has received in the past, and it’s so important that we represent our students and staff – past, present and future.”

Cardiff University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Colin Riordan, also said: “This is an exciting first for Cardiff University’s LGBTQ+ community. Our staff and students have a long and proud tradition of supporting Pride Cymru – especially the annual parade.

“This sends a clear message that as a University we are united in our determination to recognise, celebrate and defend our LGBTQ+ community.”
