Leeds Uni set to implement 11pm curfew on all Hyde Park house parties

The move comes after there were a record number of complaints by locals

The University of Leeds has announced there will be an 11pm curfew on house parties in Hyde Park, Woodhouse Moor, Headingley and Burley following a record number of complaints by angry locals.

These restrictions will mean all house parties must end by 11pm and failure to follow these restrictions could result in fines or even court orders.

A spokesperson from the uni told The Leeds Tab: “We’ve spent years trying to understand why every bedroom DJ from the south of England wants to come to our university.

“We’ve reached a point now where we don’t know what to do. It doesn’t matter how dangerous Hyde Park is, students keep coming in their droves.

“Locals have rightly been angry for years at the number of parties Leeds students’ have and today we’ve decided as a university, we’re going to do something about it.”

Second year student Charlie, from Guildford in Surrey, said the news was a “disgrace”. He told The Leeds Tab: “Look if I want to go to a house party, do a few bumps in the toilet and drop some terrible chat, that’s my god-given right. Leeds Uni can’t stop me having a house party.”

The new restrictions come after there were over 4,000 noise complaints in March alone from local residents in these areas.

Local resident, Chris Pine, told The Leeds Tab: “I understand that students want to have fun, but having to listen to thumping, screeching drum and bass music until 9am every morning is a joke.

“I don’t know how they manage to stay up so long, but the trail of mysterious bags and bottles of alcohol in my garden seems to explain it.”

The university with the support of the council  are set to send out an email to all students next week with more information.
