Glasgow named ‘Scottish University of the Year’ in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide

University of Glasgow ranked 12th in the UK in the league table

The University of Glasgow has been awarded the title of “Scottish University of the Year” in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, where the university placed 12th in the UK league tables.

With the University of St. Andrew’s being named top university in the UK this year, The Times awarded Glasgow the top Scottish prize.

The guide gives a definitive ranking of UK universities and a detailed overview of higher education in Britain which includes around 134 universities across the country.

Current Scottish First Minster and University of Glasgow alumnus Humza Yousaf was full of praise for his former university, calling it a “great reflection on the staff and students”.

He said: “It’s fitting that the excellent learning and research programme, international outlook, and supportive environment for students which has been created at the University has been recognised. Congratulations to all involved in this great accomplishment.”

The Times’s guide provides upcoming students with necessary information to make an informed choice about their higher education, taking into account everything from satisfaction with teaching quality and the student experience through to degree completion rates and graduate employment prospects.

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, principal and vice-chancellor, said: “It is very pleasing the University of Glasgow has again been named Scottish University of the Year by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024. Our ranking of 12th in the UK matches our previous record performance in the 2022 rankings, and the second occasion we have been named Scottish University of the Year in three years.

“This result is tribute to the consistent excellence of our university community, and the hard work and endeavour displayed despite challenging circumstances over the past few years. I would like to thank my colleagues for their continued commitment to the university.”
