Edinburgh Uni falls to 13th in the UK in The Times Good University Guide

The university also placed third among other Scottish universities

The University of Edinburgh has been ranked 13th best university overall in the UK in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, falling three places in comparison to last year’s rankings.

Edinburgh scored a total of 788 points, unfortunately falling just one point short of Glasgow University, and a whopping 212 points short of St Andrews, making Edinburgh Scotland’s third best university overall.

However, the University of Edinburgh did not place first in any category among the rankings as the university fell to it’s 2023 placing.

The Times and Sunday Times said: “The academic rankings are based on an analysis of students’ graduate prospects as well as their satisfaction with their university’s teaching quality, entry standards and research quality.”

While the university’s scoring in most categories remained much the same, the university’s fall in the rankings may be attributed to the decline in graduate prospects at university in comparison to last year – falling from 84.6 per cent to 84 per cent over the course of the year.

The university’s first/2:1 achievement at 91.9 per cent, however, put the university ahead of the likes of Glasgow, Exeter, Loughborough, Warwick, and Bath who all ranked higher in the overall score.

Other categories saw Edinburgh scoring 67 per cent for student experience, 68.6 per cent for teaching quality, and 61.5 for research quality.
