Father gives touching tribute to Lincoln student who died in first term of university

‘He was the happiest we’ve ever seen him at Lincoln University and was having the time of his life’

The father of a University of Lincoln student who died while at university has paid tribute to his son on social media.

Alfie Head, who sadly died on Tuesday the 14th of November, had started his studies at the university in September and was just 18-years-old.

The exact circumstances that led to Alfie’s death are still unclear, LincolnshireLive reports.

Mark Head, Alfie’s father, described his son as being “the happiest we’ve ever seen him” and announced the sad news of his passing on Facebook, where he wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that Clair [Alfie’s mother] and I have to say Alfie passed away peacefully today. He was the happiest we’ve ever seen him at Lincoln University and was having the time of his life.”

He then described how he found out that his son had been taken to hospital in the middle of the night, and how Alfie was critically ill in the ICU.

“Getting a phone call at 1:30 am saying your son was critically ill in the ICU is the hardest thing a parent will ever receive. He fought bravely but the odds were stacked against him.”

He ended his touching tribute by saying, “sleep well son and we will meet again.”

Hundreds of friends paid tribute to an “amazing person” through comments, with around 300 comments being left on Mr Head’s Facebook post, offering their “deepest condolences.”

The University of Lincoln expressed its condolences in a statement on Alfie’s death, extending support to his family and anyone affected by his death.

“The University and Lincoln Students Union are deeply saddened to hear that Alfie has passed away. The sincere condolences of the University of Lincoln community go to all of his family and friends. The University and Lincoln Students’ Union is supporting anybody affected by the news at this incredibly sad time.”
