Oshada Jayasundera was fatally hit by a car being pursued by the police

A man has pleaded guilty to killing a Nottingham Trent student who was fatally hit by a car being pursued by a police in Nottingham city centre.

31-year-old Oshada Jayasundera was hit on Huntingdon Street in the early hours of 13th December.

Joshua Gregory pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court. He will be sentenced on 28th March and is facing a “lengthy” jail term, reports the BBC.

The court was told by prosecutor Richard Thatcher that the victim’s brother intends to travel to the UK from Shri Lanka to make a victim personal statement at the sentencing hearing.

Andrew Wesley, Defense counsel, told the court that Gregory had a “long standing history of mental health difficulties.”

In adjourning the case for the preparation of psychiatric reports, Nirmal Shan’t KC, the Recorder of Nottingham told Gregory: “You have pleaded to a very serious matter.

“As far as you are concerned, you are facing a lengthy sentence.

“The exact length of that will be determined when all the information is available.”

As the vehicle was being pursued by police at the time, the force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
