University of Liverpool moves up a whopping 11 places in new university world ranking

The QS World University Ranking places UoL at 165th globally


University of Liverpool has moved up 11 places in a new university world ranking 2025.

Rising from 176th in last year’s ranking, the university placed at 165th in the world in the newly released QS World University Ranking.

The QS World University Ranking scores each university out of 100, with University of Liverpool receiving an overall ranking of 50.7.

University of Liverpool achieved an impressive score of 95.6/100 for sustainability, however, fell short in areas such as citations per faculty earning a score of 36.6 and 36.3 in employment outcomes.

The ranking’s top five featured three UK universities, with Imperial College London placing second overall (98.5), University of Oxford taking third overall (96.9), and University of Cambridge coming fifth (96.7).

Scoring 48.5 last year, the position of Liverpool University in the world ranking 2025 improved by more than two points.

With three new categories of sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research networks added to this year’s table, the results saw significant changes. Imperial College London jumped from sixth last year to second this year, falling short of Massachusets Institution of Technology (MIT) maintaining their 13 year position at the top of the table.

The 11 place improvement for University of Liverpool places them above the likes of University of Exeter at 169th and just under University of Bath at 150th.
