Beyonce has had her dad weigh on that Grammy Album of the Year snub

Beyonce’s dad has piped up about *that* Grammy Album of the Year snub

Renaissance you were indeed robbed x

Mathew Knowles has been airing his thoughts about why his daughter Beyonce keeps getting snubbed for the all-important Album of the Year Grammy.

Beyonce has been aired many times in the category: In 2010 with I Am… Sasha Fierce, four years later with her self-titled surprise album, again in 2017 with Lemonade, and then last year with Renaissance. Her husband Jay-Z took to the stage on Sunday at this year’s ceremony to express his confusion, and now dad Mathew has given his two cents.

He sat down with TMZ Live to give his unfiltered thoughts about his son-in-law defending his wife’s honour at the Grammys during his acceptance speech for the Dr Dre Global Impact Award.  With their daughter Blue Ivy by his side, Jay-Z declared that the Recording Academy’s maths didn’t “work” because how on earth could someone have a record-breaking 32 Grammys but no Album of the Year Award?

What did Mathew Knowles say about Beyonce getting snubbed for the Album of the Year Grammy?

However, Mathew came in hot with a fresh theory as to why his little girl has been snubbed three times in the Album of the Year category and laid blame firmly at the feet of Columbia Records, the label that Beyonce operates under.

He said: “People don’t know the process. Your record label can only appoint one person in a category. So that means her record label—I’m gonna call you out, Columbia Records—her record label has never really put her in that category for consideration.”

Beyonce’s father highlighted that Adele – who also is signed to the same company – was probably a bigger “financial” success than his daughter Beyonce.

“I mean, there’s a financial reason. Maybe Adele sold more records worldwide? I don’t know these answers. But these are some of the thought processes that they go through,” Mathew continued to the outlet. “Maybe you say, ‘You know, Beyoncé has her success. Here’s an opportunity to push Adele, so let’s push her.’”

Last year, Beyonce and her seventh solo album, Renaissance, was notably beaten out by fellow Columbia Records signee Harry Styles and Harry’s House with his third LP after leaving One Direction.

“I’ve been 14 years in those rooms supporting the label. I know exactly how this works,” he said.

While Renaissance didn’t win the top prize at the ceremony last year, it did spawn the smash hit The Renaissance World Tour. Beyonce’s ninth concert tour saw her perform 56 shows across 10 countries and 39 cities. Until it was defeated by Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, it was the top-grossing tour of all time, raking in billions of dollars and beating out Sir Elton John’s Farewell Yellowbrick Road. For fans unable to make any of the stops, Beyonce mirrored Taylor again by releasing it as a move for cinema audiences to experience in December last year.
