One small detail on Eloise’s dress foreshadows her relationship with Sir Phillip Crane

Obsessed with the level of detail

Eloise is really shining with her dress choices in this season of Bridgerton, but it turns out there’s some major foreshadowing regarding her future relationship with Sir Phillip Crane that is symbolised in one of her dresses.

Phillip and Eloise first meet in her book titled To Sir Phillip, With Love, which details the story of how the two fall in love through their shared love of writing, becoming pen pals and exchanging tokens in their letters to each other.

One of Eloise’s dresses is a beautiful white colour with some large flower designs embroidered onto it but there’s more to this flower than first meets the eye. The design that is shown in her dress is actually a geranium and it’s symbolic due to the flower being the first one Sir Phillip Crane sends to Eloise. Without revealing too many spoilers after very sad events Eloise and Sir Philip Crane become pen pals and as a token of his affection, he sends her a purple geranium.

One Reddit user also pointed out that purple geraniums used to represent sophistication and style and were previously associated with Aphrodite. The Grek work “geranos” also translates to “crane”, adding another layer of symbolism.

Whilst it’s still not been confirmed whether Eloise will marry Sir Phillip Crane in the Netflix series, if the show follows the plot of the Bridgerton books then it won’t be too long before we see the two together.

But after season three some fans are rooting for Cressida and Eloise to end up in a relationship together, something Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell hasn’t ruled out. She explained to Refinery29 Australia: “I think this is a show about the many ways in which people love. So it only feels right to show all the ways in which people love, including queer love. So we are exploring queer love stories across the next couple of seasons.”

She didn’t say who would feature in these stories, but said: “I don’t want to say exactly how that plays out. But it was important to me to foreground queer love and to tell queer stories and tell stories about queer joy as well.”
