Attention Lancaster students: Here are all the festivals coming up within the next month

Professor Andy Schofield has worked at Lancaster University for four years

Lancaster University’s vice-chancellor will leave his role at the university in August 2025.

Professor Andy Schofield, a theoretical physicist, will join the University of Glasgow as principal in September.

This role is currently held by Sir Anton Muscatelli, and has been since 2009.

Professor Schofield has held the role of Lancaster University’s vice-chancellor since 2020.

Professor Schofield said that he has taken on his new role in Glasgow with “mixed emotions.”

“Lancaster University is a fantastic institution, and the colleagues, students and community are second to none,” he added.

“I am very proud of all we are achieving together and remain wholeheartedly committed to Lancaster’s future. The opportunity to lead the University of Glasgow was one I never expected and, when the time comes, it will be a huge wrench to leave Lancaster University, but it is a chance too good to pass up.”

In an email to all Lancaster University staff, pro-chancellor Alistair Burt said that the university owes Professor Schofield “a great deal of thanks and we all wish him well in the future.”

He shared that staff will be updated on the hiring process for the vice-chancellor’s replacement shortly.
