£2k raised for Gaza victims through charity football tournament at Lancaster University
This is the second annual charity football match
More than £2,000 has been raised for the people of Palestine in a charity football match that took place on 15th September 2024.
The match was organised by the Lancaster Islamic Community Hub and held at Lancaster University’s 3G football pitch, with more than 100 players forming five teams.
The donations will be given to charities working “on the ground” in Gaza who provide support to displaced Palestinian families.
The event’s organisers said this support includes providing food, shelter, clean water and relocation assistance.
This was the second annual LMC charity football match organised by the Lancaster Islamic Community Hub. Last year’s match raised money to directly support 16 orphans worldwide.
The 2024 match brought together large crowds of people from local communities, as well as generous donors, according to the Lancaster Guardian. Several local businesses sponsored the matches, including popular student takeaways, Sultan Experience and Perilicious, as well as Quality Blinds.
The community hub called the day a “resounding success,” adding that it “wouldn’t have been possible” without their sponsors’ support.
Sultan FC were named winners of the matches for the second year running, and Player of the Tournament was awarded to Sultan FC player Sufyaan Munshi.
Plans are already in place for next year’s event, and the community hub have invited the general public to support them in their third match when it takes place.
