Alix Earle apologises for racist posts and denies allegations she trademarked the slurs

Alix Earle has apologised for using racist slurs in resurfaced comments from 2014. She has also denied allegations that she trademarked the racist slur following accusations from a podcast.

At the start of August, screenshots were posted to Reddit which allegedly showed Alix Earle using racist slurs such as the n-word. The comments were posted to the social media platform ASKfm under the username Alixxxxxx, presumed to be Alix.

At the time Alix did not confirm they were her comments but yesterday she posted a statement to her Instagram in order to apologise for her past behaviour, and confirm the slurs were commented by her.

She wrote: “I am taking accountability and want to make it clear that I was 13 years old and did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word. That is no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age. That absolutely is not the way I speak or what I stand for.

“I am deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth. My platform has always focused on positivity, entertainment, and uplifting others and will continue to do so. I am sincerely sorry to those I have offended.”

She admitted that she regretted how she initially handled the situation and was talked out of commenting about it sooner. She continued: “I wasn’t sure how to hand it and unfortunately the advice I was given, although well intended, was wrong. This silence allowed others to fill the void with rumours that simply aren’t true.”

Alix then went on to deny that she was trademarking her old posts on ASKfm after two hosts alleged she was doing so on their podcast. Jessi Smiles and Lily Marston claimed on their podcast, Do We Know Them?, that Alix’s legal team had contacted them and stated they had violated their copyright.

Jessi told Variety: “People posted screenshots of [Alix’s alleged comments] in our subreddit, and her lawyer said that they have a trademark to that,” and added they do not own or moderate the subreddit linked with their podcast.

Jessi and Lily then released an official statement, saying: “Based on Alix’s statement, the implication is that this email was sent without her knowledge or authorization. If that is the case, while unfortunate and out of her control, it would certainly be in her best interest to clarify that to set the record straight.”

In her Instagram statement, Alix denied their claims. “One rumour in particular is that I tried to trademark my old posts, which is absolutely ridiculous and untrue. Regardless of what’s being said online, I wanted to come on here to address the facts and most importantly apologise.”
