HBO issues statement as George RR Martin mysteriously deletes House of the Dragon blog post
But why is this all more dramatic than the actual show itself
Last night George RR Martin finally posted his long-awaited blog post about “everything wrong” with House of the Dragon and he didn’t hold back with his opinions. However, just hours after he posted the blog it was then mysteriously deleted, but not before screenshots of it had been posted all over Twitter and TikTok.
In the blog post, George RR Martin criticised the House of the Dragon showrunner, Ryan Condal, saying the two got into arguments over storyline aspects in Blood and Cheese. At one point George discussed the cut character of Maelor, Halaena’s younger son and said he doesn’t think Ryan has “anything planned” for his introduction and thinks Ryan is just trying to be “simple” which is “not always better.”

He also lamented the fact that Halaena didn’t have to choose which one of her sons Blood and Cheese would kill, adding that in the original books, it was something that made her character incredibly “strong” and an aspect of her he “hated to lose.”
At the time, creator Ryan Condal explained why they’d made the change from the books, explaining: “We knew it would be horrifying and brutal – we didn’t want it to be gratuitous or over the top. Yes, it’s a little child, and it’s awful. But because we don’t know Jaehaerys as a point-of-view character, it made more sense to experience that terrible event through Helaena’s eyes.

HBO has since issued an official statement to Variety about the contents of the blog, in particular defending Ryan Condal. The statement read: “There are few greater fans of George R.R. Martin and his book ‘Fire & Blood’ than the creative team on ‘House of the Dragon,’ both in production and at HBO.
“Commonly, when adapting a book for the screen, with its own format and limitations, the showrunner ultimately is required to make difficult choices about the characters and stories the audience will follow.
“We believe that Ryan Condal and his team have done an extraordinary job and the millions of fans the series has amassed over the first two seasons will continue to enjoy it.”
