The Perfect Couple opening dance sequence caused ‘mutiny’ and ‘meltdowns’ amongst the cast

I don’t blame them tbh

When I first turned on The Perfect Couple, I had to triple check I hadn’t accidentally chosen to watch Mamma Mia, because we need to talk about *that* opening dance sequence.

Well, it turns out I’m not the only one who was a bit confused about what on earth was going on with the opening dance sequence, as apparently it caused “mutiny” and “meltdowns” among The Perfect Couple cast. So, let’s find out what gripes they all had with it.

In case you need a little refresher, at the start of the series all of the cast, including the extra, dance for 30 seconds to Meghan Trainor’s Criminals, of all songs.

In an interview with Variety, director Susanne Bier shed some more light on the situation: “I had serious conversations [because everyone] went, ‘Are you sure you want to spend time doing this when we are so short of time?’ and I was like — I could hear myself being like a two-year-old – ‘I want it! I want it!’”

Lead actor Ishaan Khattar added that he and some other members of the cast were very confused about how the dance tied in with the rest of the show. He explained: “I don’t think any of us could make sense of doing this choreography in these characters. We’re like, ‘Wait where does this fit into the scheme of things?’.'”

In another interview with The Radio Times, three cast members revealed more about how nobody wanted to do the scene. They confessed: “I was a big naysayer on that one. There was a lot of meltdowns. There was a lot of, like, ‘I am not doing this, I’m calling my agent.’ It was pretty funny.”
