MAFS UK 2024 bride Kristina practices animal reiki, but what on earth actually is it?

During the first episode of MAFS UK 2024, newlywed bride Kristina admits that she practices “animal reiki”, and was I the only one who had genuinely never heard of this before?

She talked a bit about how she could feel the “energy” of different animals and was hovering her hands above a sheep but I’ll be honest I had absolutely no idea what she walking about. So, let’s find out more about the animal reiki that MAFS UK 2024 bride Kristina was talking so passionately about in her introduction.

Okay, so what actually is animal reiki? According to the UK Reiki Federation, animal reiki follows the same concepts as standard reiki which promotes natural healing through the movement of energy within the body. Those who practice reiki believe that the body has a life force, and when it turns low you’re more likely to become sick and feel less happy.

Whilst reiki isn’t taught so to speak, the ability is apparently transferred to a student through a master. You don’t need a degree or veterinary experience to learn animal reiki, but even just one session can sometimes cost up to £1,000 if you’re learning from the best.

The UK Reiki Federation claims that animals are more “aware of” and “understanding” of energy. The benefits for animals receiving the form of meditation can be greater comfort, improved feeling of wellbeing, and promotion of relaxation which sometimes can lead to sleep and a greater sense of self.

So when we saw MAFS UK 2024 bride Kristina move her hands above the sheep she was essentially trying to move the “life force energy” of the animal around in order to help improve its quality of life. It should also be noted that there has so far been no clear evidence through scientific studies to suggest that reiki is an effective treatment.

Apparently, for both humans and animals, reiki can be experienced as a “flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all.” Whilst some people who have had the reiki therapy say they felt the energy “rustling” around them, it probably is a bit harder to understand what the animals are experiencing since they can’t talk and all.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t 100 per cent know if I believe that reiki is a real thing but the sheep did look very content, so maybe there is something in it after all!
