Alex writes angry rant about ‘not allowing’ Holly to ‘walk all over him’ on MAFS UK 2024

‘Maybe they paired us together because I’m not somebody that’s intimidated’

During last night’s first MAFS UK 2024 commitment ceremony, Alex and Holly came to blows after she accused him of being “disrespectful and very childish” towards her as he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring. When she started talking to him about how she wasn’t going to stand for his behaviour, Alex commented “Let’s go” and later added: “Trust me, if we weren’t in the process you would have been ghosted.”

The experts quickly called him out, with Paul Brunson describing his words as “ridiculously immature.” Now, in an Instagram Q&A, Alex asked his followers what they thought of the episode with Holly with one viewer replying: “It’s confusing she wants a man’s man but gets angry when you don’t submit to her lol.”

Alex then wrote an angry rant about how crucial it is that men “stand their ground” in a relationship and make sure they don’t “allow” their girlfriend to “dominate” them.

He wrote: “Never thought about it from this perspective. I think it’s important to be a strong man when you are with a woman who has a strong personality otherwise she will just walk all over you. MEN need to be MEN and it’s important that you stand your ground and you are heard in your relationship.

“If you allow her to dominate you, over time she might actually become unattracted to you because she will naturally start to take on roles that the man should be fulfilling. She may view you as weak and someone who doesn’t challenge her.

“Maybe that’s why they paired us together, because I’m not somebody that’s intimidated and will work through the rough edges with her.”

There have been accusations of  “abuse” surrounding Alex being reported, and when his promo reel was shared, one person branded him a “dangerous individual”.

Claims were made online by a woman called Shannon, who it is believed was speaking on behalf of a friend, who claimed to have dated Alex in the past. Speaking of Alex, Shannon said: “In situations where people are marrying each other at first sight, allowing a domestic abuser to join the show is not acceptable at all. I have seen first hand the damage that this man has done. Something needs to be done about this situation.”

Women’s Aid responded to the decision to include him in the show, saying: “We are incredibly disappointed and concerned to hear that producers of Married at First Sight have taken the decision not to remove an alleged abuser from the latest series.

“Having seen the direct impact of abusive behaviours displayed on the show in previous years on survivors, we would have hoped that protection and tolerance levels for abuse would leave no room for perpetrators to be given a platform again, with their actions being televised as ‘entertainment’.

“Sadly, this decision demonstrates the lack of awareness that the production team still has when it comes to domestic abuse. At Women’s Aid we would urge the producers to reconsider how they approach this, for the sake of the contestants to whom they have a responsibility to protect; and to signal to survivors that the entertainment industry takes their experiences seriously.”

“As part of our responsibility to safeguard our contributors, everyone taking part in MAFS UK undergoes a rigorous vetting process, involving a criminal record check and multiple psychological evaluations, before they can be cleared to take part.

“The DBS (criminal record) check carried out on the contributor raised in the allegation was returned clean. We cast contributors based on the information we are legally able to access and we continue to review this process to ensure checks are as thorough as legally possible.”
