Yesterday, news broke that the Sycamore Gap tree had been felled in an act of vandalism at some point during Tuesday night. And the news hit some of us harder than others. Northerners and tree admirers alike are all in group mourning over the loss of the iconic tree – it indeed is a sad time.

I’m not sure what it is about it that’s causing so much pain – the landmark was pretty but I must have only been once or twice in my life. I didn’t know I could care so much about a silly little tree but alas, I am in mourning.

Some people are even leaving messages on stones at its resting place, so I know I’m not completely crazy. My Roman Empire is currently the iconic Sycamore Gap tree and I’m ok with it. As a wise person once said: Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
