Lancaster Uni graduate with terminal illness finally lands in Peru to reunite with family

Alex has touched down in Peru to reunite with her family as her final wish is fulfilled

Alexandra Angeles Caycho, a graduate of Lancaster University, has finally landed in Peru to reunite with her family.

Alex was found to have terminal pancreatic cancer in 2023 after thinking she was suffering from a sports injury.

Over £150,000 was donated to Alex via an online fundraiser to cover the cost of getting her back home to Peru by a private air ambulance, as part of her final wish to spend the rest of her time with her family.

Over 6,000 people globally donated to Alex’s fundraiser to help achieve her final wish. The journey took over 24 hours as well as stopping several times to refuel.

Alex travelled with her boyfriend Dylan, her two cats, a doctor and two critical care nurses.

Alex was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after suffering with back and knee pain as well as her eyes turning yellow. She then started treatment at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool, but the cancer spread through her body and soon she was told she only had weeks to live.

A fundraiser was set up on behalf of her boyfriend, Dylan Harris, by their friend Katie Cherry to help raise funds to help Alex get home.

Dylan’s mother, Gaynor Harris, commented on Alex’s GoFundMe page: “Huge thanks to each and everyone that has donated and/or shared Alexandra’s story it has warmed our hearts. The kindness and generosity of others shown during this highly emotive time has lifted Alex’s spirits beyond measure and she spent the last couple of days as comfortable as she could be after a few very scary days/nights.”

Katie posted on Alex’s Instagram that “Alex is now with her family, her boyfriend, and her beloved cats, in the country she loves so deeply.”
