Nobody panic, but The Liverpool Tab is officially recruiting new editors to join the team

The available roles are News Editor, Social Media Editor and TikTok Editor

The Liverpool Tab is accepting applications for the new 2024/2025 editorial team!

The positions available are News Editor, Social Media Editor, and TikTok Editor.

This is an incredible opportunity to make a real contribution to a student media company that is read by thousands of students every month.

All current students are welcome to apply and journalism experience is not a requirement as you’ll receive training from experienced editors and journalists from The Tab HQ. The only requirements are that you must be a current university student in Liverpool, and you must be available to attend and help run weekly meetings.

Being an editor for The Liverpool Tab is fantastic for your CV. It opens up loads of opportunities for you and also lets you meet new people so it’ll not only boost your resume but your social circle too. You’ll also get opportunities to write for the national site, The Tab, which is read by more than nine million readers each month.

Editors are also invited to London twice yearly to meet the national writers, have training, and occasionally get a free curry. What more could you want?

We’re also holding an open meeting to recruit new writers at The Guild at 6pm on Wednesday September 25th, if writing is something you’re interested in.

News Editor

It’s important to stay informed and knowledgeable about all the latest news in Liverpool by keeping your ear to the ground.

The fast-paced nature of news requires careful selection in your work. When a story emerges, you need to be able to work swiftly and efficiently to get it published.

The News Editor is in charge of creating news articles for The Liverpool Tab, writing on a weekly basis, and assisting the Editor in Chief by editing articles.

You’ll also commission stories to writers, and occasionally help with features, if required.

You’ll be working on stories like story about an 18-year-old left incoherent and unable to walk after being “spiked” at Liverpool Eras Tour and this look at Liverpool students being blamed for the “appalling mess’ after streets were filled with rubbish at the end of term.

Social Media Editor

This is a dream role for anyone who wants to get into the world of social media or content creation.

You will be responsible for The Liverpool Tab’s digital brand and for expanding student reach, meaning you’ll be heading our social media platforms across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as well as working with the TikTok Editor to brainstorm creative content.

We want someone who can make memes that are relevant to Liverpool students, someone who loves social media, and someone who wants to grow a brand.

You’ll be tasked with advertising new articles, posting daily content on our stories, sharing memes, growing our audience, and keeping up follower engagement.

As Social Media Editor, you will also support the editorial team by keeping an eye out for Liverpool-related content and by keeping your ear to the ground for the latest news and campus gossip. You won’t be required to edit articles, but you’re welcome to write articles, if you wish.

Look at our Instagram for ideas on the sort of content you’ll be making.

TikTok Editor

You’ll be working with the Social Media Editor and the other section editors to promote The Liverpool Tab’s content on TikTok.

TikTok is the social media platform we most want to see grow at The Liverpool Tab so we’re looking for someone who has a solid grasp of meme culture, and wants to make lots of fun and creative videos.

You should love being in front of the camera, as you will be expected to present some of the news articles we publish.

Don’t worry if you’re not used to writing scripts for TikTok videos or even presenting on screen, as our Assistant Editor from HQ is a broadcast journalist by trade, so she’ll be able to help you as and when you need.

You can check out our TikTok here. So, have you got what it takes?
