University of Bristol climbs five places in The Times Good University Guide 2025

Bristol just missed a spot in the top 10

The University of Bristol has jumped from 16th to 11th place in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.

Some of Bristol’s courses ranked as high as second and third nationally, such as education, Russian and Eastern European language, dentistry, and engineering. Similarly, the 2025 Guardian University Guide nominated the university’s civil engineering and education degrees as the best in the country.

As well as course rankings, UoB has various technological feats to celebrate, including the title of AI University of the Year at the National AI Awards, and its possession of the UK’s fastest and most powerful supercomputer.

“Bristol is a fantastic place to study and work and we are proud to see that recognised in The Times’ latest guide” declared Michele Acuto, the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement. She continued “It’s particularly exciting to see so many Bristol subjects placing near the top of their fields, and it’s a testament to our academics and support staff that they consistently ranked so highly.”

The Times Guide found that the university is “more in demand and as ambitious as ever”, and “a degree from Bristol carries weight in the jobs market”.

As important as academic performance is, so is student wellbeing. Bristol has been granted the University Mental Health Charter Award, which has only recognised ten universities so far. The Daily Mail’s University Guide concurred, affirming “Bristol is doing its bit to tear down barriers that have prevented disadvantaged children from attending elite universities.” It added that Bristol graduates are 5th most in-demand by top UK employers.

Bristol’s pro vice-chancellor for Education and Students Prof. Tansy Jessop has said “Our terrific staff are constantly striving to create a research-rich and vibrant learning environment to give our students the best possible education. Thank you to all our staff and students for making this university a wonderful place to study and work.”
