Lancaster Palestine Solidarity Campaign aims to raise £16k for clean water in Gaza

Atef, a Lancaster University graduate, is raising £16,000 to install a well in Gaza

Members of the Lancaster Palestine Solidarity Campaign are fundraising for the installation of a solar powered well in Gaza to provide clean drinking water.

Atef, who completed his PhD at Lancaster University and is a Gaza resident, aims to raise £16,000 with £10,500 already been raised.

The fundraiser aims to raise all the funds by mid October 2024.

The well has already started construction and placed where large numbers of people are living in deprived conditions. The well will provide access to clean drinking water for 5,000 people daily and free of charge. Since the construction of the well has already began, the funds for the installation of the solar panel to power it need to be raised to make the well usable.

The group are holding a fundraiser for the cause on 27th September 2024 at The Gregson Centre in Lancaster at 7:30pm. Admission is set between £5 and £10, and there is a pay what you can afford option. The lineup consists of The Buddhakkan, Fretville, Songs for Gaza and traditional music from local musicians, and an art auction.

PSC Lancaster said: “Anything you can spare will be gratefully received, and please share this with your contacts. Time is very much of the essence”.
