Floating bins, stranded students, and soggy Crocs: Huge flood causes chaos in Selly Oak
Honestly, I wouldn’t have been surprised if I’d seen Noah cutting about in his ark
I might be stating the obvious here but it’s been pretty rainy in Birmingham the past few days.
I mean, you literally needed a gondola to get across Selly Oak yesterday.
Students have taken to social media to show the sheer scale of the flooding, and honestly, I’m glad I don’t live on their street.
In a video shared on TikTok, you can see students having to hoist up their trousers to struggle their way through almost knee deep water.
They can be seen carrying shopping bags and one of them is clambering through the water in Crocs. At least they’re waterproof.

Another video by the same student shows the Crocs-wearing girl walking across a residential wall, trying her best to avoid this biblical flood in Selly Oak, holding onto scaffolding to stay dry.

In a third video uploaded by a student named Darcie, you can see cars partially submerged in the water, with her saying: “POV: you come home to see your car about to float away”.
She pans across showing the scale of the flooding, leaving her house surrounded by water.

However, this isn’t the only time students have been left wondering when Noah and his ark will arrive, as Exeter students suffered from crazy flooding last year.
Streets were filled with knee-deep water which looked to be going through some students’ front doors.
In a TikTok by The Tab Exeter, water can be seen as high as the top of van wheels.
Flood alerts were in place yesterday in Selly Oak but have now been removed, so hopefully, I won’t be needing to buy a canoe from Amazon any time soon.
