King’s College London ranks as the UK’s best university for sociology and social policy

It beat Cambridge and LSE to secure the top spot

King’s College London has been ranked the UK’s best university for sociology and social policy.

In the Guardian’s 2025 university rankings, KCL climbed to the top spot, being the only university with an 100 per cent “Guardian score” for this category.

Other universities that scored highly were Cambridge University in second place with a rating of 98.8 per cent, and LSE in third with 88.7 per cent.

Commenting on the news, Professor Linda McKie, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy (SSPP), said: “These fantastic results are the result of substantial work across the past year. They underline that studying social sciences at King’s provides an educational experience that is rich, distinctive and excellent.

“Our courses give students the highest level of academic excellence alongside the practical application of theories and knowledge to improving the world around us, including a strong focus on careers.”

While this is a significant achievement for King’s, the university has unfortunately fallen five spots from last year’s overall rankings, now placing 28th overall.

However, in the Daily Mail’s league table, named KCL the UK’s 13th best university, so can’t really complain.
