Exeter ranked as one of the best uni nights out in the UK, and I can’t say I’m surprised

Like we didn’t already know

Exeter is one of the top British university cities for a night out, according to new data.

Get Licensed has put Exeter in the eighth spot overall and whilst eighth place might not sound like a roaring triumph, it’s all about perspective – we have solidly positioned ourselves in the top tier of university cities. That’s definitely worth raising a TP Venom or two.

So, let’s break it down.

This ranking took a look at everything from the number of bars and clubs per 100,000 people, to how safe you feel walking home at 3am. So, with Exeter offering a unique mix of nightlife options and affordability, it’s clear we’re not just another university town.

What’s the real Exeter nightlife? It’s making life-long friends in the Fever smoking area, it’s starting your pres at 6pm for your 8pm TP entry, it’s ending up in Vaults after a messy night and most of all, it’s ending your night with a Efes in hand.

We’re not just a number on a list, we’re a community of students who know how to make the best out of a statistically average night out.

While some may argue we don’t have the overwhelming variety of a place like Newcastle, York or Durham (who placed the top three), we think Exeter has the perfect balance. Here, you’re never too far from the next club and there’s always something going on. A TP Wednesday is iconic, and anyone who’s been there knows it’s an experience that simply can’t be matched.

From cheesy anthems in Fever room two to the indie vibes in Cavern, Exeter has something for everyone.

And did we mention the pub scene? With 15 pubs per 100,000 people, we’re never short of a place to grab a post-lecture pint.

One thing we’re proud of in Exeter is that it feels safe. We scored 59 out of 100 on the “feel safe walking alone at night” index, which might not seem groundbreaking, but in comparison to other cities, it’s not too shabby. Plus, with taxi prices coming in at £1.64 per kilometre, you’re never breaking the bank getting home.

While Durham, York, and Newcastle might be in the top spots, can their nights out really compare to the joy of stumbling into half your seminar group in Fever’s iconic queue, or singing at the top of your lungs with a bunch of friendly faces? Probably not.

So, here’s to Exeter. We might be ranked eighth on paper, but in the hearts of those who’ve experienced our city’s nightlife, we’re in a league of our own.
