Four injured after taxi hits pedestrians in Glasgow city centre
The cause of the incident remains unclear
Four people were injured in a road traffic accident in Glasgow city centre on Saturday afternoon after a black cab collided with pedestrians.
The crash occurred around 1:50pm on Union Street, a busy area near Central Station.
Among the injured were two women, aged 60 and 61, as well as the taxi driver, 62. All three were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Another 61-year-old woman was taken the to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, while a 50-year-old woman was assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require further medical treatment.
According to Glasgow Live, the cause of the incident remains unclear, with Sergeant Christopher Hoggans from Police Scotland’s Road Policing unit urging witnesses to come forward.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened,” Sargeant Hoggans said. “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have. I would also ask anyone with recording equipment to check their footage, as it could assist us in our investigation.”
Emergency services were quick to respond, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatching two appliances and a specialist unit to assist at the scene.
Road closures affecting Union Street, Renfield Street, St. Vincent Street, and Gordon Street were put in place but have since been reopened.
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for further comment on the situation, according to Radio News Hub.
