University of Exeter has gone up five places in Times Higher Education 2025 World Rankings
It beat Leicester and Cardiff
The Times Higher Education World University rankings for 2025 have been published, revealing the top universities in the world.
The University of Exeter rose five places to 172nd in the World University Rankings for 2025, having been 177th in 2024.
The Times Higher Education World University rankings offer a comprehensive review to assess university performance on a global stage and to provide a resource in understanding the different missions and successes of higher education institutions. Their rankings cover three main areas of university activity: research, impact, and teaching.
Exeter has been ranked an overall 60.4 which includes its teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. Exeter also received 94.9 for both research quality and international outlook. Pretty great scores, if you ask me.
The university also scored highly for humanities, coming 82nd in the world, its best score since 2017.
Furthermore, the University of Exeter has placed in 10th for the Impact Rankings 2024, increasing from 88.7 in 2021 to 96.1 in 2024. It also ranked 19th for Zero Hunger, a huge increase in the rankings from 2021, when it was at 74th.
The 2025 rankings include 2,092 ranked universities from 115 different countries or regions, with 30 of these countries having at least one university in the top 200. There were also 185 new entries this year in comparison to the previous year.
The UK have strong representation, with high overall rankings and top positions. The University of Oxford has maintained its number one position for the ninth consecutive year and was closely followed by Cambridge in fifth.
