Everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, the ‘darkest’ game yet

Is AC going full horror?

With the upcoming launch of Mirage, Infinity, Codename Jade and Codename Red – you might think it safe to describe Ubisoft’s future of the Assassin’s Creed as bright. But that’s not if Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe has anything to do about it – the mysterious and spooky looking upcoming game that’s shrouded in darkness and radiating eerie vibes. But what actually can we expect from it? Here’s everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe.

Unlike Mirage, it will be a flagship game

The upcoming 2023 bound Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to be a smaller scale game, but Ubisoft have said that Codename Hexe (along with Codename Red) will be flagship games for the franchise. However, all is not business as usual with Hexe – developers promise it’s going to be a “very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.”

What’s the setting?

Whilst we don’t know what the setting is officially, but streets are saying this one is going to be set during the reign of the Holy Roman Empire in 16th century Germany, at the height of the witch trials. Couple this with the 30 second trailer we’ve seen of Hexe, which is currently literally all we have to go off, and I’d say we’re in for the franchise leaning into horror.

This was a dark period of history with countless women murdered by religious fanaticism and god-fearing paranoia, so no shocks at why this is being named by Ubisoft as the darkest entry yet. I personally would love the chance to play as a female protagonist navigating this world – but how the assassin’s order will fit into it remains unclear.

Ubisoft should be making an appearance at E3 this year, so hopefully details about what Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe actually is will be clearer then – and how it fits into the hub of Assassin’s Creed Infinity
