Right, this is how good Tyrique from Love Island actually is at playing football
‘I’m the one who gets the goals’
Love Island, it’s fair to say, has had its fair share of questionable footballers as contestants. Most recently, Macclesfield FC’s Tom Clare, who has since sacked off the beautiful game altogether for influencing. Before that, Hashtag United’s Toby Aromolaran – who famously booted a ball into the villa’s pool while showing off his skills during 2021’s talent show.
And this year, Toby’s best friend and Lewes FC central midfielder Tyrique Hyde is taking up the show’s mandatory semi-pro footballer position amongst the cast. During his career, he’s played alongside Aaron Simpson from season seven (this sports web is thick). But just how good is he really on the pitch? We’ve done the digging to find out.
Right, how good actually is Tyrique from Love Island at playing football?
During the first episode of the tenth season of Love Island, Tyrique claimed “I’m the one who scores all the goals.” Which, is quite a statement considering he’s a central midfielder. His club, Lewes FC, is currently in the Isthmian League Premier Division (seven leagues away from the Premier) where they finished sixth— and he’s scored two goals this season.
Previously in his lukewarm career, Tyrique has played for Dartford and Dulwich Hamlet and joined Lewes from Dartford in 2022. His football skills were first called into question when his stats were pulled up by a viewer on Twitter. And it’s not looking good:

At this semi-professional level, Tyrique is earning a pretty unremarkable wage. So, any dreams of WAG lifestyle he’s selling girls in the Villa are seriously, seriously, shambolic.
And Tyrique is actually a bit of a football nepo baby

Although Tyrique’s own match stats are fairly unremarkable, his dad, Micah Hyde, has a more reputable football career. He played alongside David Beckham in the Brimsdown Rovers youth team before joining clubs like Burnley and Watford and retiring in 2012 to coach the under 18s team at Queen’s Park Rangers.
While playing for Watford between 1997 and 2004, Micah made over 200 appearances and scored 24 goals. So, a few more than his son has under his belt so far.
