History of Love Island cast arrested or in trouble with police

A brief history of Love Islanders who have been arrested or in trouble with the law

From public fights to drink driving

After Love Island, all we hear is reports of brand deals and breakups. But, as well as the obvious, some Islanders stay in the news for the wrong reasons, and a number of previous Love Island cast members have been arrested since appearing on the show.

From scraps with photographers to drug charges, Islanders have found themselves in trouble a few times over the years. Here’s a history of what’s gone down, and who with.

Jack Fincham

Recently, it’s been reported Love Island 2018 winner Jack Fincham has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving with false plates on his car. It was claimed he was stopped whilst driving at high-speed, and was also held by police on suspicion of careless driving and driving without insurance.

The Sun is also reporting a source said he was using private plates on his car, not false ones, and has denied using drugs and driving. Fincham was also charged with drug driving in 2021, but the case was dropped.

Fincham’s solicitor Conor Johnstone, of M.A.J Law, said: “Mr Fincham has not been charged with drug driving and denies any drug consumption whatsoever. There is no evidence at this stage that Mr Fincham drove whilst over the legal limit and we are hopeful that his blood results will prove the same.”

Chloe Crowhurst

In 2017, three years after appearing on season two of Love Island, Chloe Chrowhurst was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. According to The Sun she failed a breathalyser test, the morning after a night out in Crawley.

Chloe was released and had to appear in court the next month to face charges. In a statement via her rep, Chloe apologised for her “error in judgement”.

They added: “Chloe is fully aware that her public profile comes hand in hand with responsibility and at this stage does not want to comment beyond offering her sincerest apologies to her family, friends and supporters for any embarrassment she may have caused.”

Kaz Crossley

Probably the most well known case of an Islander being arrested came earlier in 2023, when 2018’s Kaz Crossley was arrested in Abu Dhabi over drug charges. She was arrested at Abu Dhabi airport on the way to a flight to Thailand.

Kaz’s name was flagged up after a video of her snorting a white substance at a party was leaked in 2020. The video was allegedly filmed during lockdown when a number of influencers went to Dubai.

Speaking recently on the Saving Grace podcast, Kaz revealed it was an abusive ex of hers who had shared the video, and recalled the traumatising ordeal of being placed in a Dubai jail cell with no idea what was going on. She said: “He made an Instagram account called ‘Kaz sniffing’ and followed thousands of accounts. It didn’t compute in my head that someone could be so evil and calculating.”

Anna Vakili

In January 2022, Anna said she was arrested for assault, and claimed she was “targeted” by police because she was famous. Love Island 2019 star Anna said she called police over fear she was going to be kidnapped and ended up being arrested herself, in an incident which took place the year previous.

Anna and her sister Mandi got into an altercation outside The Dorchester hotel in London. Anna said she called police over fears she was going to be kidnapped, and whilst outside the hotel waiting for authorities she got into an argument with her sister.

She said she saw police officers Googling her name, and had thought about suing. She said she and her sister were handcuffed and put in a police van and spent 14-hours in a cell.

A spokesman for Met police said: “Police were called at approximately 00:06hrs on Sunday, 11 April to reports of a disturbance in Park Lane, W1. Officers attended and spoke to a witness who reported seeing two women involved in an altercation. No injuries were reported. Two women, aged 29 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of common assault and taken into custody. Following enquiries it was established that no further action was necessary and both were released from custody.”

Zara Holland

In 2021, season two’s Zara Holland was charged with breaking Covid rules in Barbados and faced a year in prison or an £18k fine. The ex-Love Islander tried to flee the island with her boyfriend whilst positive with coronavirus, but the couple were arrested at the airport.

It was reported they were given red wristbands and told they were going to be taken to a quarantine base, but instead removed the bands and tried to fly home. Zara pleaded guilty, and was given a £4,417 fine for breaching quarantine rules.

Haris Namani

Remember when Haris Namani was voted out of the winter Love Island 2023 villa, just as a video of him in a street brawl was shared online? The video was said to be from May 2021, and was taken after a night out in Doncaster, south Yorkshire.

The shocking video was originally shared on Snapchat, and then leaked to The Sun. In it, Haris and another man exchange a number of punches, before the other man falls to the ground. You can hear someone in the background yell “go on Haris” as Haris shouts “I’m not a bully, I’m not a fucking bully”. As he stands over the other person, who is on the floor, Haris says “On my mum’s life…”

When asked in his exit interview what he thought about the video being shared, Haris said: “I’m devastated that this video has been seen, it’s not a reflection of my character. I’m not someone that goes looking for fights and I didn’t want to be in that situation. This was a heat of the moment thing.

“The video doesn’t show everything that happened. Afterwards we met up and we cleared the air; we’ve shaken hands and we get along now. It’s not something that would happen again.”

At the time, police were said to have been shown the footage, but it appears nothing came of it.

Chris Hughes

Whilst Chris Hughes wasn’t arrested, police did briefly investigate an altercation between the Love Island star and a photographer at the NTAs in 2020. Police confirmed they were investigating accusations of assault and criminal damage after Chris was pictured in a fight with a photographer at the event.

According to the Mirror, Chris started rowing with the paparazzi over claims he’d called him a “cunt”. Pictures showed Chris appearing to point and shout at the man before physically grabbing and pushing him. Onlookers are said to have pulled the fight apart.

A Met Police spokesman said at the time: “We can confirm that at 03:52hrs on Wednesday, 29 January, police received a report of assault and criminal damage following an altercation between two men at Waterview Drive, Greenwich.

“The incident is reported to have taken place at a time between 23:00hrs on Tuesday, 28 January and 01:00hrs on Wednesday, 29 January. The reported criminal damage relates to photographic equipment. There were no reported injuries. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”

Chris posted an apology after the event, apologising and said he “totally regretted” what happened. He explained he had been at the event celebrating Jesy Nelson, who he was dating at the time, winning an award.

“I was having an amazing night celebrating the award my girlfriend deservedly won,” he said. “After coming out of our hotel a particular paparazzi decided to repeatedly call me a name I wouldn’t call my worst enemy, and physically try and start an altercation.

“I want to make everyone aware this was only in self defence. I hope people I care about including my followers, family and friends can understand and forgive me. This night was about Jesy’s win and I’m sorry if I distracted anyone from this.”
