Money, please! Students get the most money from their parents in these uni towns

There must be lots of Tarquins and Tatianas in York

The cost-of-living crisis has been tough for students. The average monthly rent rose 16.5 per cent to £689.43. A big night out costs a harrowing £44 in 2024. However, the privileged Petunias and Percivals among us can always rely on the Bank of Mummy and Daddy to ease the burden. NatWest’s research found out which uni students get the most money from their parents in 2024.

Students are relying on money from their parents more than ever before. The average amount the students get each month from their families in 2024 £505.10, which is a massive 57 per cent increase from 2023’s £321.15.

Students at the University of Salford get the least money from their families – just £137.60. Unsurprisingly, London is near the top of this list. Students in the capital get a £787.93  allowance from the Bank of Mum and Dad each month. Guess they need it to go towards their £1,032 monthly rent.

Quite a few towns with Russell Group unis are near the top of the list. Perhaps Russell Group unis offer courses on persuading your parents to give you more money? Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol are all in the top ten towns.

The highest town on the list, however, is York. Students there get a whopping £1,088.97 a month. That’s twice the average, and eight times what the students in Salford are getting. Students at the University of York must be buying their parents some very nice Christmas presents.
