Pack your umbrella, because these are officially the rainiest Russell Group unis in 2024

Let’s face it – the UK isn’t exactly known for being sunny and dry. When packing for uni, you’d be daft not to bring an umbrella and a raincoat. But which Russell Group unis are the rainiest in 2024? We compared the average amount of precipitation that each city with a Russell Group uni gets, according to climate-data.org.

The University of Cambridge has the least soggy students, with just 673 mm of rainfall each year. Now, I know couldn’t be bothered to do geography GCSE, but that doesn’t sound like very much rain to me. It’s a shame Cambridge students spend all their time studying in their rooms and not enjoying the sunshine.

Unsurprisingly, the University of Glasgow gets the most rain each year. With 1228 mm each year, the students must barely have enough time to dry off before the sky starts chucking it down again. But surely none of them picked a uni in Scotland for the weather, right?
